Benefits of Mustard ::

Who has not heard of mustard seeds! Mustard seeds are small yet effective in curing many health disorders.
Mustard is a plant that yields mustard seeds which is commonly used as one of the spices in many regional foods. Mustard seeds and seed oil are extensively used in medicine. Mustard contains selenium which is an antioxidant that plays a role in proper thyroid function, good immune system and helps in the prevention of rheumatoid arthritis. Mustard seed increases pitta, and decreases vata and kapha. In Ayurveda, mustard oil is used in body massage depending on the body type. External application eases the pain of sciatica, gout and aching joints. Mustard oil promotes hair growth.

Mustard seeds may be colored from yellowish white to black. The seeds are sputtered in oil (tempered) and used for garnishing food. The mustard leaves and sprouts are very nutritious and may be either cooked or added raw to salads. Mustard sauce is used as topping for sandwiches and croquettes. Mustard oil is also used for pickling.
